President Buhari cancels Ogoni cleanup launch in Rivers State

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the planned trip to Rivers State for the launching of Ogoni cleanup. The Ogoni cleanup exercise was recommended by the United Nations Environmental Programme in its report in 2011, due to the fact that the land has been polluted by oil exploration and production for many years. According to Premium Times, on Thursday, several sources at the presidential villa revealed that President Buhari had not left the State House for the Ogoni trip. President Buhari rather sent his Vice Yemi Osinbajo to represent him at the event. The president's reason for not attending the launch has not been ascertained. This is the 2nd time in less than 2 weeks that President Buhari had cancelled his scheduled trip outside Abuja.
