Many feared dead as militants ambush soldiers in Delta State

Unknown gunmen had on Wednesday night attacked the soldiers houseboat around a creek near Omadino/Idjere junction in Warri Delta State, and killed 2 soldiers and 6 civilians. The gunmen attacked the houseboat around 7 pm and 8 pm when the soldiers safeguarding the oil facilities went out for a routine check. A senior military officer who spoke with Punch correspondent revealed that the gunmen took the soldiers unawares and killed all occupants of the houseboat and left. According to Punch news, another source said that more than 15 people were killed and that 10 soldiers were among the dead ones. No militant group has come out to claim responsibility, but security sources believed that it was the Niger Delta Avengers that carried out the attack.
