Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armitstead marries fellow racer Philip Deignan- despite coming 10 minutes to the church because she was stuck behind a bicycle

A 27 year old former Olympic medalist, Lizzie Armitstead married Philip Deignan, a fellow cyclist today in her home town Otley, West Yorkshire. She stunned in her classy ivory wedding gown. According to Dailymail, the former Olympic medalist was 10 minutes late to her wedding because her vintage coach was blocked by a lone bike rider.

Five dead and 15 injured on sallah day accident

Five killed, 15 injured in Salah Day accident


On Monday, not less than 5 persons were confirmed dead and 15 others injured in an accident that occurred along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The unfortunate incident happened around 4 pm, at Ogunmakin close to Total gas station involving a Mazda bus with registration number KSF477XK and a Mitsubushi car with number MUS639DK. According to The Nation, the deceased's were 4 males and 1 female. The Federal Road Safety Commission Officials in Ogun State assisted in evacuating the vehicles, thereby creating way for easy flow of traffic. The FRSC Sector Commander who confirmed the accident said 20 people were involved and that the injured ones were taken to Ife-Oluwa hospital and the Ibadan Center Hospital. He attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking and urged drivers to be patient while driving.  

Anti graft war: I'll abide by the rule of law-Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Monday repeated his administration's position in adhering to rule of law in the fight against corruption. According to PUNCH news, the president's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu released this in a statement, where Buhari stated that his administration had not mistreated those standing corruption trials in anyway. President Buhari further said the government would continue to ensure justice and fairness to all, and that those who abuse public trust should be made to face the consequences. The President also thanked the citizens for supporting the policies, programme, and the Federal Government actions targeted at improving the security, revamping the economy and fighting corruption.

Earth quake creates panic in Kaduna

On Sunday, there were reports of  earth quake in Kwoi Jaba local government area of Kaduna State. The quake was reported to have caused panics among residents. In a statement signed by Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, said a formal report has been made to the appropriate authorities to investigate the development, report on the event and issue appropriate guidance. According to Dailytrust, the State Governor Nasir Ahmed El- Rufai sympathises with the Kwoi resident over the reported earth tremors and has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to move to the area and comfort the citizens.

Tupac's estate is irked that another person is out to take advantage of his art and has planned to block the sell of his handwritten lyric titled "Catchin Feelings", According to TMZ news, Moments in Time company has plans of selling the original lyric sheet on the 13th September, 2016, the 20th anniversary of Tupac's death. Tupac estate is aggressively and seriously kicking against anyone who wants to sell his property. On the other hand, the owner of Moments in Time, Gary Zimit says the estate has no claim and is going on with the sell of the lyric sheet.

Patience Jonathan's cash:Houseboy, driver's names used to open $15m accounts



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested four domestic staff as well as a driver and a houseboy whose names were used to open an account for Mrs Patience Jonathan, the wife of the former president Goodluck Jonathan. According to PUNCH news, anti graft agency had on Sunday disclosed that the companies' accounts were opened with Skye bank.  The four companies are Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Company and Investment Property Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited. 
EFCC has since frozen the four companies' account which have about $15m balance and another account with about $5m that has the name of Mrs Patience Jonathan as the account holder. Mr Sammie Somiari who testified in an affidavit on behalf of Mrs Jonathan, said the whole money in the above mentioned accounts belonged to the former first lady. However, the former first lady had sued Skye bank for freezing her bank accounts and for divulging vital information about her finances to the EFCC. She is calling on the court to order Skye Bank to pay her damages of N200million for what she termed violation of her right to own personal properties under section 44 of the 1999 constitution.

Sallah celebration: Police deploy armed undercover securitty personnel in prayer grounds

The police have deployed armed undercover security personnel in all the Eid-El-Kabir prayer grounds across the nation in order to frustrate plans of the terrorists attack on Muslim worshipers today Monday. The undercover operatives would work alongside other regular personnel at the prayer grounds to ensure adequate and maximum security. According to PUNCH news, the police together with the Department of State Services had on Wednesday warned that the terrorists had planned to attack about 11 states in the country between Monday and Tuesday. And it was in view of this planned attack, that the Edo State governorship election which was to take place last Saturday was suspended.
Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, had instructed the command's commissioners of police and the Zonal Assistant Inspectors- General of police to provide adequate security personnel in all the prayer grounds, recreation centres, public places, public infrastructure and utilities and other points and venues where the Eid-El-Kabir celebration would hold across the country for maximum security.

Election postponement: Nigeria's democracy in danger, says Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has described the postponement of the Edo State Governorship election by the Independent Electoral Commission as a dangerous signal for the nation's democracy. This statement was released on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, accused the APC of planning the postponement of the election. He said and i quote "I warned Nigerians not to elect President Buhari because he lacks the mental, moral and intellectual capacities to superintend any civilized society. We are all seeing the results. Our economy is in recession and democracy is also in recession." According to PUNCH news, Governor Fayose said INEC knew that the election would not hold on Saturday as scheduled but decided to deceive Nigerians. He further said that the postponement of the election was a sad commentary on the country's democracy, warning that the nation's democracy is on the verge of collapse. 


Deputy Gov, Edwin Clark mourn Tompolo's father death

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro, Chief Edwin Clark and the Niger Delta leaders have on Thursday, condoled with the people of Gbaramutu kingdom over the passing away of Chief Thomas Ekpemupolo, the father of ex-militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo. According to PUNCH news, Tompolo's father died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Warri Delta State. He died as a result of the injury sustained during the military invasion of his place on 26th May, 2016 in Kutie, Warri South-West local government area of the state. Chief Edwin Clark described the late Ekpemupolo as a peaceful man. Chief Clark urged the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom to remain calm and be peaceful following the incidence. He also described Tompolo's father death as the people's sacrifice for peace to reign in the Niger Delta. The Deputy Governor Otuaro, described his death as a great loss to the Ijaw nation. He also condoled with HRM Oboro-Gbaraun II of Gbaramatu Kingdom and Ekpemupolo's family and praying for them to be comforted in the Lord.

Nigerian troops arrest Niger Delta Militant Leader


The Nigerian Army said his troops have arrested Gabriel Ogbudje,one of the leaders of a Niger Delta militant groups, known as the Otugas fire force. A statement made by its spokesman, Col Sani Usman, on Wednesday has it that the troops while on 'Exercise Crocodile Smile', arrested Ogbudje with his accomplice Elvis Dweller Ejus. According to PUNCH news, Usman said Ogbudje's group was allegedly responsible for the attack on some oil installations in the Niger Delta. The suspected militant was trailed and arrested by its troop on Agbor-Abraka Road in Edo State on Tuesday 6th September, 2016.

Mudslide kills newly-wed teenager in Lagos


A 16 year old teenager, Faisa was killed by a mudslide in Lagos after a continuous rainfall. The teenager was killed in Agidingbi, Ikeja area of Lagos State, 2 weeks after her weeding. According to PUNCH Metro, she and her husband relocated to Lagos after they wedded in their village Goza, Borno State. The teenager was all by herself when the ugly incident occurred. Her corpse has been recovered by the officials of the State Environmental Monitoring Health, who responded to the distress call. PUNCH correspondent who visited the area gathered that the slum, which is on Dosumu Street, off Amara Olu Road, Agidingbi was inhabited by Borno State residents who left their homes to seek refuge from  Boko Haram attacks. The slum popularly called Kurata, has about 100 people living in it. A resident of the area by name, Umaru Mate said the mudslide happened around 10am and about three shanties were destroyed too. Another resident Ibrahim Aliu lamented of how they paid N24,000 per annum as rent to some men who claimed to be working for the Lagos State Government. They are appealing to the government to come to their aid by getting them a better place of living.

It has about twenty times the living space of the average house with three swimming pools and an area where a helicopter can land. It costs 375,000 pounds to fuel the vessel.

Housekeeper who killed employer in Lagos, nabbed in Taraba


The Police in Lagos State have nabbed a housekeeper Tanko Abdulateef, who allegedly stabbed his employer, Mrs Mabel Okafor, to death in Ajah area of the state . According to PUNCH Metro, Mrs Okafor was stabbed in the stomach in her residence on close 9, Victoria Garden City, Ajah on the 17th August. Her valuables such as, 3 mobile phones, trinket, and some clothes were stolen also. PUNCH correspondent gathered that the 22 year old Abdulateef left the apartment same day after the ugly and unfortunate incident. His disappearance aroused police suspicion that he was behind the murder. PUNCH Metro gathered from a police source that Abdulateef was arrested from his hideout in the Bali area of Taraba State on the 27th August. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the arrest said the suspect has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba for further investigation. Badmos further said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation.

Godwin Obaseki, the All Progressive Congress governorship flag bearer for Edo State, says his intention for being the governor is such that he could consolidate on what Governor Adams Oshiomole has done in the state. According to PUNCH news, Obaseki who was quoted in a statement to have said this in Benin on Sunday, said he had a 10 page manifestos with target on how to consolidate on Oshiomole's achievement. WHO- Nigeria records third polio case


On Monday, 5th September, 2016, Nigeria recorded its third polio case in the northeastern state of Borno. The World Health Organisation made this known and warned that more cases could break out in a major health setback. In August, two polio cases were reported. According to PUNCH news, Stephanie Mucznik, the spokesperson of Rotary International working with the Nigerian government to eradicate polio, said the three cases seem to be from the same strain of disease circulating in the northeast for years. The latest case is about a 2 year boy suffering from  the onset of paralysis on 6th August in Monguno area.

A German boy, 9 saves younger brother in Korbach pool

Markus, a German boy of 9 years, has been praised for resuscitating his 2 year old brother, Rudolf who fell inside a garden swimming pool. According to BBC news, the brothers were with their grandmother at home in Korbach in Central Germany. Rudolf went into the garden and fell face down into the swimming pool after his grandmother went to get a nappy. Markus called paramedics and was told how to give first aid, providing heart massage, mouth -to-mouth resuscitation to his younger brother. Rudolf started breathing again before the arrival of the paramedics who airlifted him to hospital in Marburg, north Frankfurt.
