Abut 44 shops were burnt down at the popular Farm Centre GSM market in Kano on Friday. According to the PUNCH report, an eyewitness and a shop owner who were around during the unfortunate incident, said the fire started at about 5:30pm on Friday when most traders had closed. The fire outbreak which started as a result of a spark from a converter supplying power to some of the shops destroyed phones and other valuables worth millions of naira. The director of the state fire service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan, when contacted confirmed the incident. Alhaji Rulwan said they got distress call at about 5:20pm and deployed his men immediately. He said the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes. And further said the fire outbreak was caused as a result of a spark from an inverter that some of the traders are using. So far, no life was lost.
