Nimbo Killings- Enugu govt makes request, refuses grazing reserves

The Enugu State Government has categorically opposed and refused the creation of grazing reserves for the Fulani herdsmen across the country. This was disclosed yesterday in Enugu by the deputy governor of the state, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo. She stated this during her declaration of the government's stand  pertaining to the constant clashes between the herdsmen and the farmers in Nigeria to the Defense Headquarters Committee led by Major Gen Edward Nze.  Mrs Ezeilo rather called on the Federal Government to create ranches to reduce the clashes between the herdsman and the farmers. Reports from Premium Times has it that she further suggested for immediate disarmament of the herdsmen, as some of them were seen about with weapons such as AK-47. A proper screening of the herdsmen by the Nigeria Immigration Service was also requested so as to fish out the foreigners among them for repatriation. In addition to this, the State Government has asked that an investigation be carried out so as to find out the reasons behind the invasion of the community where nothing less than 20 persons were murdered. In the committee's response, Major Gen. Edward Nze, said that all tiers of government must rise to the challenges at hand in order to defeat the perpetrators of this murderous act. Major Gen Nze also said the is need for military involvement because it is obvious that some criminals and terrorists are now among the herdsmen and are carrying out an attack on the innocent citizens.
