The Edo State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aihanuwa Eregie confirmed the outbreak of lassa fever in the state. According to her, 6 persons contacted lassa fever and this was confirmed at the Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control in Irrua Specialist Hospital Edo State. One out of the six cases is from Plateau state. The commissioner tasks all and sundry to cultivate and maintain good hygiene and to make sure every contact with rats and rodents are reduced by eliminating rats in their environments. she further warns the villagers to stop bush burning so that rats would not run into peoples houses.
