The International Monetary Fund Managing Director, Ms Christine Lagarde will appear before the court over a state payout to the French tycoon, Bernard Tapie. According to BBC, she is charged with negligence over the award of $445m to Mr Tapie in 2008 during her appointment as the France's Economy Minister. The case happened as at the time that Mr Tapie sold his major stake in the sports equipment company adidas. The businessman claimed to be defrauded and got too little from the sale by Credit Lyonnais, a state owned bank that handled the sales in 1993, and therefore sued for compensation. Ms Lagarde who appealed against a lower court in December is now expected to appear before a special court for government ministers. Ms Lagarde who was appointed for the second time as the IMF MD in January will be the third head of the organisation to face legal proceedings.
