Switzerland opens the world's longest and deepest rail tunnel

Switzerland has officially opened the world's longest and deepest rail tunnel which took almost  2 decades for its completion. According to BBC news, the 57km(35 mile) double bore Gotthard base tunnel is going to offer a high speed rail link under the Swiss Alps between southern and northern Europe. The Switzerland Gotthard rail tunnel is the longest and deepest in the world as it has now overtaken the Japan's Seikan rail which is 53.9km, and has pushed the 50.5km Channel Tunnel that links UK and France to the third place.
