Senate- Forgery case against Bukola Saraki, Ike Ekweremadu is a coup

The Senate had on Sunday berated the forgery case initiated against its President Dr Bukola Saraki and deputy Ike Ekweremadu as a coup against the legislative arm of the government. According to Punch,  the Senate stated that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, initiated a forgery case against these principal officers. It also said that the motive was nothing other than subjecting the National Assembly to the control of the executive and described this as unconstitutional and violation of principles of separation of powers, checks and balances. The Senate further claimed that the executive and some unnamed  party leaders want the Senate President and his deputy to be remanded in prison, thereby making it difficult for them to preside over the affairs of the senate. The Senate therefore called on President Buhari to caution Malami, saying that prosecution of the principal officers and forcing of leadership change in the chamber could throw the nation into anarchy and crisis. The Senate further advised the executive to come up with bills and proposals that would help in addressing and tackling the economic issues facing the nation at this critical time.
