The Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, has stated that Steven Johnson Syndrome is not a contagious disease but rather an adverse reactions to some drug use. According to Punch, a statement from the Federal Ministry of Health Director of Media and Public Relations, Mrs Boade Akinola, has it that the syndrome can only show up in individuals who have adverse medical reactions to some drugs. Mrs Akinola further stated that it could not be called a disease outbreak since it was not infectious. In addition to this, she said that we just wanted to create an awareness about the implication of self medication and the fact that people can be affected adversely when they consume drugs not prescribed by a qualified health personnel.
