Improtation doing us harm

The Chief Executive Officer of EriscoBonpet Group, Chief Eric Umeofia, said that the best way to improve Nigeria's economy is by banning importation of finished food items into the country. He gave an instance of where 91.1 percent of imported tomatoes pastes are all substandard and has called on the Federal government  not to allow the country to become a dumping ground for finished products from abroad. Chief Umeofia who produces tomatoes pastes locally, said because of the erratic power supply being experienced in the country, cost of production is quite high and allowing importation of these substandard finished products into the country would continue to pose a big problem to local producers and manufacturers. More so, consumers tend to purchase the imported finished products since they are cheaper than those produced locally, and also risk their lives since they are not aware of the food composition.
