House of Rep invites Diezani on March 2
The House of Representatives had sent a letter inviting Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke, former Minister of Petroleum Resources to explain the extension of $24bn worth of crude oil contracts involving two firms without proper agreement. This letter was sent to her on Monday, 22nd of February 2016. This statement was confirmed by the Chairman of the House Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Swap, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, who said that the letter was sent today February 22 and demands that Mrs Madueke appears before the House of Representatives on March 2 to explain how oil contracts deal awarded to two firms: Duke Oil ( a subsidiary of the NNPC ) and Tranfigura (an Offshore oil firm trading in Nigeria without paying tax to the Federal Government) in 2010 were extended till 2014 without proper agreement. The oil swap deal was done when NNPC allocated 445,000 barrels of crude to be refined for local consumption but because Nigeria did not not have functioning refineries, then came the Oil swap deal with theses two firms. The deal was for the firms to exchange part of the crude for refined products.
