Bayelsa speaker refuses to vacate office

The sacked Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr Kombowei Benson has refused to vacate the office forty days after his sack by the Rivers State Court of Appeal.  He was sacked as a result of a suit filled against him by Ebifaghe Orunimighe, the APC candidate representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 4. Oruminighe stated in his case that during the 2015 April election, that there was no election in four wards such as, Olodiama Ward 3, Apoi Ward 15, Forupa Ward 14, Ukubie Ward 16 and moreso, that the election results were manipulated, figures were inflated in those areas where election took place. The said election was nullified since December 9th 2015, but the sacked speaker refused vacating office and still presided over the House of Assembly that received the 2016 Appropriation bill of the State from Governor Seriake Dickson. The panel that sat on the case, Justice Mohammed Garba, Ejembi Eko and Stephen Adah, judged in favour of Oruminighe due to his ability to present evidence that there was no election in Apoi Ward 15 but results for the ward were published  in result sheets snatched away earlier.
